If you know Lakers fans, you'll know that this news is just devastating. All season Lakers fans have praised Rondo's work around running the second unit and his leadership.Lakers guard Rajon Rondo has suffered a fractured right thumb, will undergo surgery and is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks.— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 13, 2020
GET RONDO OUT OF THE FUCKIN GAME!!!!!!!! #LakeShow— Ron Ron (@shyronnnie8) March 8, 2020
DO NOT FUCK THIS UP FOR US RONDO— april (@itsnotapril) March 8, 2020
Rondo was a ball handler who thought it was 2011 still, meaning he believed he was still a good basketball player. That was not the case, i'm sorry to be the one breaking the news. The highlight of his Laker career was punching Chris Paul, something NBA fans have been begging for since 2005.If you think Rondo is a positive addition for the Lakers on the court, then I don’t know what to tell you, Perk.— nick wright (@getnickwright) March 8, 2020
For as awful as he had been, he was still the best ball handler off the bench which is more a testament to how bad the Lakers point guard depth is than anything. Despite me despising everything he stands for and believing he's a sleeper agent for Doc Rivers, losing Rondo will be a loss simply because he can dribble a basketball. Something the Lakers seem to deem non-essential to their roster.
So where do the Lakers turn? They need someone off the bench who can dribble with two hands after all. Jamal Crawford was signed by the Nets, and Kobe Bryant is dead, so i'm out of ideas. Derek Fisher might of been an option but Matt Barnes has transitioned into a blog boy and a drug addict, so he'd be of no use.
The answer is Josh Smith. Ball handler? Surely not. The founding father of the Los Angeles Clippers franchise? Absolutely. The Pistons have finally finished paying him so he'll be feeling a bit light in the pocketbook and may need some spare change, why not?
You don't think theres a chance that Doc Rivers sees Josh Smith on the Lakers bench and has flashbacks to game 6 of the 2015 Western Conference Semi-Finals, immediately spurring him to bench Kawhi and Paul George? You think Josh Smith, cut months prior by the Pistons, ending any hope he had at a title isn't burned into his head like a branded cow? You're living in Bananaland buddy, Rivers would be throwing fits should Pelinka call up J-Smoove.
After all the Lakers seem to love revitalizing the careers of mid-2000's Eastern Conference stars who ruined the Lob City Clippers hopes and dreams, just look at how important Dwight Howard has become.
I'd of thought about Corey Brewer but frankly his stint in 17-18 scarred me for life and I don't want to deal with 3's hitting the side of the backboard again.
